Durga, also identified as Adi Parashakti, Devi, Shakti, Bhavani and by numerous other names. She is a warrior goddess, who combats evil and demonic forces that threatens peace, prosperity and dharma of the good. She is a fierce and protective mother goddess, who rides a lion or tiger, with many arms, each carrying a weapon.
The word Durga means "impassable-invincible". Through all her forms, encompasses the essence of salvation and sacrifice. She is the mother of bounty and wealth, as also of beauty and knowledge. She is also known as Divine Mother, protects mankind from evil and misery by destroying evil forces such as selfishness, jealousy, prejudice, hatred, anger and ego.
