Textile 7: Wax Black Print "Asante Royal Symbols"
- Wax Black Print "Asante Royal Symbols"
- Running yardage measures:
- Excellent. Collected by Brian around 2010. This type of fine wax block print was originally made in Holland, specifically for the African Textile Trade. Symbols and Icons that were popular in African Popular Culture were used and heightened the appeal throughout Africa. Decades later, the print market for this cloth shifted to China. However, wax block printed cloth is also made in Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia; the market in Africa is still so large that the use of Popular African Symbols and Icons is still used today.
