Hand of the Buddha
The Hand of the Buddha is in the Varada Mudra (gesture) - symbolizing Compassion, Charity and Wish Giving. The hand lowered with the palm facing outward is the gesture of bestowing blessings or giving charity. In this beautiful figure, the Buddha's hand is offering a Lotus; the symbol of Purity and Enlightenment. Lotus grow in muddy water, and it is this environment that gives forth the flower’s most literal meaning: rising and blooming above the murk to achieve enlightenment.
