  • The Floral Motif in Islamic Art is thought to begin with the Mongol Invasion of Western Asia and the establishment of a Mongol Court in Iran in the 13th and 14th centuries. This period saw many transformations in the decorative language of Islamic art that would endure for centuries. Numerous Chinese motifs and patterns were adopted, and the floral or vegetal patterns were particularly popular. Idealized flowers, blossoms and vines became associated with The Garden of Paradise and a reference to Paradise itself.
