Murugan, also known as Kartikeya and Skanda is the Hindu God of War. He is the Commander-in-Chief of the army of the Devas (Gods) and the son of Shiva and Parvati. He is the brother of Ganesha, God of Removing Obstacles.
Murugan is invoked to give power and strength to the petitioner, and prevent the dangers from loss, theft, betrayal and depression and misfortune. He is the Protector of Families and the Guardian of Employment and Income, Health and Well Being. Reverence to Murugan promotes courage and strength to face life's difficulties.
Murugan is traditionally pictured as a flawlessy beautiful young male, and often seen astride his mount, the peacock. He is also often pictured with his two consorts, Devasena and Valli.
